Creating Momentum for Change
By Acting Together!

In this age of information and technology, becoming an expert is more challenging than ever. With endless sources of data, opinions, and disinformation, the burden of sifting through and understanding the most credible and relevant information is immense. For utility regulators, this challenge comes with an even greater responsibility—they must make informed decisions that directly impact our climate, our environment, and the lives of Georgians for decades to come. It is imperative that our Commissioners pay attention to the findings and warnings of the worldwide scientific community with regards to energy sourcing. Unfortunately, there is troubling evidence that they are not. Our first step in advocating with them is to address this issue head-on. Without their engagement with credible climate science, creating meaningful momentum for change will be nearly impossible. We can take action by submitting thousands of public comments through the Commission’s website, demanding accountability. It’s crucial to urge the Commissioners to meet with climate scientists and to review IPCC reports, the 5th National Climate Assessment, and other relevant information. In subsequent public comments, we must insist that the Commissioners give serious attention to expert testimony presented by intervening parties during the 2025 IRP hearings. Environmental organizations and advocacy groups will, as in previous IRP hearings, provide compelling evidence and actionable recommendations for transitioning Georgia to a clean energy future that is safe, affordable, and reliable. And as individuals we can express our personal support for those clean energy recommendations. Our Georgia Public Service Commissioners are parents and grandparents who, like all of us, have a personal stake in ensuring a livable planet for future generations. It’s difficult to believe they wouldn’t take bold action to protect that future if they fully grasped the gravity of the climate crisis and recognized their opportunity to be leaders and heroes in this fight. Unfortunately, the influence of money, power, and disinformation from those profiting off fossil fuels has created significant barriers to progress. But history has shown that when enough people raise their voices and demand change, transformation can happen—and it can happen quickly. Time is running out, and every voice matters. Signing up for Action Alerts is a simple first step. When you receive these alerts in the coming months, taking just five minutes to submit a public comment can make a meaningful difference. For those with more time, spreading the word, organizing, or directly engaging with the Commissioners can further amplify our impact. Together, through collective action, we can drive the changes needed to secure a sustainable future. Let’s not wait any longer—now is the time to act!

Listen to the Scientists!

Scientists are presenting solutions to head off further warming, but many of our elected leaders are not paying attention.

Raising your voice matters!

Numbers are important when it comes to advocacy.  Lots of people taking just a few minutes to raise their voices, is key to creating change.
